BFI Black Star: Norman Jay MBE

Live Cinema UK were extremely proud to present a UK wide film and music tour with one of the most respected DJs in the world today.  As part of BFI Black Star season, Norman Jay MBE curated themed DJ sets for a range of films in London, Bristol, Leeds, Exeter and Manchester, as well as introducing each film, to celebrate the very best in black cinema.
Featuring a specially curated selection of films, Norman introduced his on-screen black star icons, explaining the influences these stars have had on his career and life. Screenings included exclusive previews of the 4K re-release of In the Heat of the Night starring Sidney Poitier in Exeter and London, plus an opening night special presentation of Boyz in the Hood re-release at BFI Southbank.

After each screening, audiences danced the night away to an exclusive DJ set with Norman featuring a history of black cinema soundtracks, including Shaft, Shaft in Africa, In The Heat of the Night, Across 110th Street, Slaughters Big Rip-Off plus many more.
