We’re delighted to announce that Live Cinema UK will be providing distribution and marketing consultancy for Clara & The Nutcracker, an ambitious new fulldome experience premiering at the Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities at the University of Oxford this December — and one of the most significant immersive dance productions to come out of the UK.

Clara & The Nutcracker is a co-production between Northern Ballet, award-winning Welsh immersive studio 4Pi Productions, and the Schwarzman Centre. Inspired by David Nixon CBE’s iconic staging of The Nutcracker, it is not a filmed ballet but a purpose-built 30-minute narrative fulldome film, blending live-action performance captured on stage and in the studio with richly animated CGI sequences and Tchaikovsky’s score performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra, delivered in surround sound.

The creative credentials behind this project are exceptional. Northern Ballet is one of the UK’s most awarded dance companies, known for its powerful narrative storytelling and exceptional production values, and for reaching audiences in towns and cities across the country that other national companies rarely visit. David Nixon CBE, whose original choreography, direction, and costume designs for The Nutcracker underpin the production, is one of the defining figures of British ballet.

4Pi Productions brings a track record in fulldome filmmaking that is unmatched in the UK dance sector. Their most recent fulldome work, The Rift — a collaboration with artists in Zimbabwe exploring dance, ecology, and climate — has just won the Grand Prize in the Dome Competition at NewImages Festival in Paris, one of the world’s leading festivals for immersive and XR storytelling. In 2025, 4Pi’s live fulldome performance Arka Kinari: Artivism at Sea won Best Live Performance Experience at the Best of Earth Awards, the global fulldome industry’s most prestigious prize competition.

The production has also been shaped by research from humanities academics at the University of Oxford — Professor Joanna Neilly and Professor Phillip Bullock — while Tchaikovsky’s score is performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra.

We’ll be sharing more as the project develops. In the meantime, venues and distributors interested in licensing Clara & The Nutcracker are encouraged to get in touch directly with the production team.

Clara & The Nutcracker premieres at the Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, University of Oxford, from 10–24 December 2026.
